19.5.2013

Just ran 24 miles, my furthest ever and probably the furthest I will go before the Marathon in 6 weeks time. between now and then I have plenty of time to focus on getting stronger overall and cutting down times on some of my shorter distances befroe tapering the week before the race. I’m kinda nervous about the hills in Dorset as I know they are probably a lot meaner than the ones I have been training on in Surrey but with the right amount of cross training and core strength I don’t see why I can’t do them.

Today’s run had its own heartbeat. I often like to think of running as dancing with the trail, following its lead. Today’s partner was very romantic, in the woods there were bluebells and lilly of the valley so the whole forest smelt bitter and sweet at the same time. I saw a fox cub charging through a field of dandylions and there were buzzards calling in over the heathland. It was hot today and I ran without a shirt, got stung by a bee and scratched by gorse.

At about mile 21 I was in a considerable amount of pain. I was completing a loop at the end of the run and the psycological effects of being nearly home but turning round and doing another loop are actually really painful. So there I was, grimacing in the road when the most incredible thing happened. I was listening to Mars, Brinnger of War by Holst when all of a sudden I snapped out of all pain and flew all the way home.

I’ve been overdoing it a bit recently, too many late nights, stressing over uni work (hand it all in tomorrow!) and my clean eating has gone out the window. I’ve really missed the comfort of a training routine over the last two weeks and I can’t wait to get back into it! I ran 7 miles today and it was so easy, i think it might be one off my favorite distances. It was hot today and I have really awkward tan lines already, but I think I run best in hot weather. Tomorrow it will be even hotter and I can’t wait to be free to run all day…

2.5.2013 (in which i nearly murder a film student)

Earlier today I was trying to set up my space of the degree show (I hand in all my work next tuesday so it’s really important that the space is ready on time) and I had planned on nailing up over 30 cork mats onto the walls of the space today, so I had loads to do. Well, there I was hammering away when some guy comes up to me and tells me to ‘shut the fuck up’ because he was a film student and today they had their screenings in the cinema, all day.

  • firstly, I had no idea they were being assesed today, if i did then i wouldn’t have started hammering
  • secondly, there is no need to be so god damn rude! i mean seriosly, what ever happend to good old fashioned politeness, if he had been like ‘excuse me, we are being assesed in the cinema today, could you pleaseĀ  be quiet’ then i would have been like, ‘sorry, dude I didn’t know, hope it goes ok’ but instead he swore and walked off in a huff. douchbag.
  • thirdly, never go up to a pre-menstral, sleep-deprived woman with a hammer and tell her to ‘shut the fuck up’. just sayin.

I apologised bare faced and carried on until I had finished my row and he just glared at me because i didn’t do what he wanted straight away. But to be fair though, I don’tĀ  want to piss anyone off and the last thing i want would be to sabotage the film screenings so I abandoned the hammering and took my anger out on the trails instead. Seriosly, though, some people can be so rude and agressive when politeness would have been better.

I would be really stressed about this set back but i went for a really lovely 7 miler and it’s impossible to be unhappy when the sun is shining and you have this many endorphins running through your veins!

Mossy Wood
This is a secret place of mine. I was out walkiing one day and I came across a tiny winding animal track, I followed it deep into the gorse and bracken. It took me to this clearing; a microcosmic world ringed by silver birch and carpeted with thick mounds of moss. I lay down in the centre of the clearing and slept a dreamless sleep for several hours.

shamless reblogging of my own pictures so you can see some of the lovely trails i run.

Moonlight running

Last night I couldn’t sleep because the moon was shining in my eyes. I so wanted to go out and run but I was too exhausted. I’ve decided that I am going to go to bed extra early tonight so i can get up at 4.00 to run. I’m doing an 18 miler in the moonlight and should catch the dawn chorus. It will be cold but a clear sky and If i’m on the run by 4.30 then i will get to see the rising sun, something I havn’t seen in a long time. I kind of wish that i had a camera that i could run with but actually, some things are too beautiful to be caught in a photograph.

Another 7 miles! beat yesterday’s time by a full 7 minutes, I was working hard today, going fast up the hills and even faster down them. I’m really going to miss my 7 mile route when I move house in June, I’m not looking forward to living in north London, I can’t think where to run apart from along the roads and streets, I guess I will have to do some exploring and find the trails. I am looking forward to running with my doggies though!

Just ran 7 miles without a shirt! it’s so warm and sunny, I feel like I must be solar powered because I always run best in the heat! I LOVE SUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Time for a shower and then some reading in the park. I find it difficult to be stressed about the deadline next week when there are this many endorphins in my body!
